Some additional notes: while I wrote that my hair is 3” thick, it is actually more 3.25”, but this isn’t an option. It is also so straight that people ask if it is achieved via straightening/rebonding treatments; even people who work in salons ask this.
My hair might look brown in certain lightings. There is a lot of brown melanin which I have personally noticed, but it is probably not enough to be considered “brown”. Adding this in case what people have in mind is raven black hair. I have heard Caucasians and even fellow Asians say my hair is so dark it makes them envious.
I wash my hair once or twice a week, or thrice a week if it is very hot and humid, which tends to cause my hair to get greasy faster. I use gentle hair cleansers; but by this I mean baby products, though my primary shampoo has been &honey Deep Moist for over a year now.
I condition with &honey as well, but on routine wash days, I would instead use the Fino hair mask. I also tried Tsubaki, but I didn’t like it as much as I did Fino. Sometimes I would still follow up with &honeh conditioner as I read somewhere that this can help boost and seal the hair mask’s goodness.
I wrap my hair in a microfibre towel to help it dry, then I remove and carefully brush out my damp hair, then I apply a hair oil or hair serum. I use one of these: &honey Deep Moist hair oil, Fino hair oil, or mise en scene Perfect Serum, depending on which I think my hair needs.
I use Perfect Serum or Fino as a heat protectant as I like to blow dry my hair on wash day, because I find it helps keep my hair fresh for longer. It is worth noting that I make sure not to use too much heat; I would quickly make one pass then go over it with cool air. After this I apply a bit of hair oil again.
I get trims a few times a year; at least twice a year. Sometimes every after 3 months, or 6 to 8 months.
Based on the general description for virgin hair, my hair could be considered as such. The last time my hair was dyed was in 2016, and all that hair was already cut and donated. I have never had any chemical treatments done apart from that.
I do not smoke or drink; I have no such habits at all, and I drink a lot of water and try to keep a relatively healthy diet.
However, I opted not to classify my hair as virgin hair for the following reasons:
1. While I do not smoke, I do have family members who do. I have managed to make them stop smoking in my presence, but it is still not completely avoidable. For example, they would sometimes happen to need to get a light from inside, though they will quickly take this outside.
2. There is a considerable amount of smoke pollution from cars and such where I live, so even though I don’t go out a lot, this might have affected my hair quality.
3. Again, I like to blow dry my hair once a week or every other week. I understand this might be a dealbreaker for some.
Please note that I still included the “virgin” tag based on technicality, in case there are people who are not extremely strict with their virgin hair parameters.
Overall, this is just to say I cannot say that I handled my care with as much TLC as I would have liked (like those hair influencers! Amazing hair, and while I am jealous I unfortunately cannot commit to such extensive routines), but I did the best I could within my capabilities
